This course is for those wishing to teach individuals and group in a broader context, which encompasses fitness for sport, general fitness and strength conditioning, using fixed resistance machines, free weights and circuit training.

Fitness Training - Fitness Instructor Award You will need a moderate level of fitness. It would be an advantage to be familiar with; free weights, fixed fitness machines and attended some circuit training sessions. No academic qualifications are needed and provision can be made for those with learning difficulties.

Course Programme

  • Components of fitness
  • Essential anatomy and physiology
  • Approaches to resistance and circuit training
  • Health Screening and health & safety concerns
  • Kinesiology (exercise for specific muscle groups)
  • Planning progressive programmes
  • Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Barriers to exercise
  • Customer Service

    The course is about 122 hours. This includes tuition and additional hours for home study.
    Assessment takes place approximately four weeks after the course ends, for the assessment you will need to:

  • Plan, teach and evaluate a 45 minute circuit training session
  • Plan, teach and evaluate a 45 – 60 minute resistance training induction session
  • Take a one hour multiple choice theory paper
  • Provide evidence of competence in Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)*
  • Complete worksheets on customer care, health & safety and promoting activity
