This course is for those who wish to work in the gym, or exercise teachers. Personal trainers and coaches who would like to incorporate fixed resistance machines, free weights and Cardiovascular machines into their programme.
Fitness Training - Gym Instructors AwardYou will need to have a moderate level of fitness. You also need to be familiar with the use of free weights, fixed exercise and cardiovascular machines.

Course Programme

  • Approaches to aerobic training
  • Approaches to resistance and circuit training
  • Components of physical fitness
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Kinesiology (exercise for specific muscle groups)
  • Principles of safe and effective exercise
  • Screening and health & safety issues
  • Barriers to exercise
  • Customer Service
  • Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)*

    The course is about 122 hours, includes tuition with additional hours for home study. We appreciate that people are free at different times, so we run a variety of course formats including intensive and weekend courses.The assessment takes place approximately four weeks after the course ends. For the assessment you will need to:

  • Plan, teach and evaluate a 45-60 minute Cardiovascular machines training session
  • Plan, teach and evaluate a 45-60 minute resistance training induction session
  • Take a one hour multiple choice theory paper
  • Provide evidence of competence in Cardiovascular Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Complete worksheets on customer care, health & safety and promoting activity
